Goals could flow once more at Kingsmeadow
AFC Wimbledon reached round three of the Carabao Cup following a 2-2 draw with Premier League new boys Ipswich Town in the second round and we predict another flurry of goals when Newcastle roll into town on Tuesday.
The Dons beat Ipswich 4-2 on penalties almost a month ago and Wimbledon followed it up with a 3-0 thumping of bitter rivals MK Dons.
That shows a competitive nature is present in Johnnie Jackson’s side and it will be needed once more when the high-flying Magpies swoop into view.
Newcastle remain in the top six of the Premier League despite their 3-1 loss at Fulham on Saturday and they will be determined to bounce as quickly as possible.
A dust-up with a League Two side represents a good opportunity for Eddie Howe’s men to restore some confidence and an entertaining contest can be expected with at least three goals being scored our main prediction.
Magpies can fly into fourth round
Newcastle have scored in every match this season and Eddie Howe chose a strong line-up in their second-round clash with Nottingham Forest and it looks like he is taking this competition seriously.
That could spell trouble for Wimbledon who may struggle to keep a lid on the Magpies’ star-studded line-up.
Even if Howe does tweak things, the Premier League side should be too strong for their League Two hosts and a 3-1 correct score looks a solid outcome in this contest.
Only Colchester and Ipswich have scored more than once against the Dons this season, but Newcastle are a huge step up in class we predict that they will look to flex their muscles this week.
