Ajax vs AZ Alkmaar Predictions
- Ajax have dropped points in three of their last five league games
- AZ have lost only one of their last four meetings with Ajax
Ajax’s stop-start season may continue
Ajax have fallen a long way off last season’s Eredivisie-winning title pace and this is a crunch clash in the battle for a top-three finish with AZ only two points behind John Heitinga’s men.
Feyenoord look to have the title sewn up and PSV are currently in pole position for second after they recorded an emphatic 3-0 win over Ajax last time out to leapfrog them in the table.
But on the back of that poor showing in Eindhoven, the Sons of the Gods are worth opposing at home to AZ, who have recorded successive 3-0 wins over Fortuna Sittard and Waalwijk.
Ajax have been pretty strong at home of late, winning five of their last six Eredivisie matches in Amsterdam, but they are blighted by inconsistencies.
The hosts have failed to win three of their last five league games, not only losing to AZ but going down 3-2 at home to Feyenoord and being held to a goalless draw at Go Ahead Eagles.
AZ may also have their problems but they have lost only two of their last eight away games, winning five of those matches and that includes a 2-1 victory at second-placed PSV.
Thursday’s Europa Conference League semi-final clash with West Ham isn’t the ideal preparation but they are still worth backing to avoid defeat in a match that is going to have a huge say on the final standings.
The visitors have lost only one of their last four meetings with Ajax, twice winning 2-1, and that scoreline is preferred.
