Tip Reasoning

The Monday night game in the Segunda Division features a Deportivo La Coruna side who will be making one of the longest trips in Spanish football. It’s a 1400 mile round trip for the Galicians but they won’t mind one bit if they can come away with all the points as they look to build on a strong start to the season as they seek to bounce back to the top flight at the first attempt.

Depor do have a pretty good track record when it comes to doing that. They managed to seal an immediate return to the top flight in 2012 and 2014 but have been something of a yo-yo club this decade, which has been a poor one by recent standards. They currently sit 3rd in the Segunda Division heading into this round of fixtures though in a season when all the recently relegated sides appear to be making strong promotion pushes.

Almeria meanwhile are hovering in mid-table and they’ll be pretty content with that given they only beat the drop on head-to-head last season. Fran Fernández took charge late in the 2017/18 campaign and has built on his initial success this term largely thanks to an impressive home record with only early leaders Malaga having won at the Estadio de los Juegos Mediterráneos this term.

The hosts are the clear underdogs with the bookies here but the value does look to lie with them. Almeria have won 5 of their last 6 at home in all competitions with the only exception being an entertaining 3-3 draw with top flight Villarreal in the Copa del Rey. They’ve beaten the likes of Sporting Gijon, Zaragoza and Las Palmas during that run, all sides who held pre-season promotion ambitions and their 3-0 win over recently relegated Las Palmas was particularly impressive.

Depor meanwhile haven’t been totally convincing on the road. They have just a 29% away win percentage in the Spanish Segunda Division this term, not great for a side that is targeting promotion. It’s just 1 win in 6 road games for Depor heading into this one so it’s hard to see much value in them at all here with Almeria going well at home.

Overall backing Almeria Draw No Bet looks a decent punt.

Backing Both Teams to Score could also be worth considering. 5 of those recent 6 Depor away games have seen goals at each end and they will certainly come here with a positive attitude. Almeria have scored twice or more in all of their last 6 at home though with all of the last 3 seeing both teams score.
