Amiens vs Metz Predictions
- Amiens have scored in 14 of their last 16 home games in all competitions.
- Metz have enjoyed playing away from home recently with just one loss in their last seven, however five of these have been draws.
- Five of Amiens’ last seven games have ended level.
Metz Looking To Keep Away Form Going
It really was a terrible game last Friday as Metz lost 2-0 to Lyon. There were hardly any clear-cut chances with the team sitting 15th in Ligue 1 doing well to disrupt Lyon’s rhythm. Les Gones only ended up scoring via the penalty spot and from a corner counter-attack after Metz’s ‘keeper had gone up to try and net an equaliser. Despite the poor result, manager Vincent Oignon will have positives to take from the game.
Metz will be the away side for this which will help as les Grenats have enjoyed playing on the road as of late. They have lost just one of their last seven away days in Ligue 1 but with just one of these ending as wins, there is progress to be made still. However, in the last few weeks they have travelled to the homes of some difficult teams and still come away unscathed, for instance their journeys to Montpellier (1-1), Reims (1-0) and Nantes (0-0). Therefore with Amiens being the opponents for this one, Metz should fancy themselves.
Oignon’s men haven’t been the best going forward this season but away from home they have generally bucked that trend. They’ve netted six in their last six on the road which is a solid tally for a team trying to stay in the league. However, their main striker Habib Diallo with twelve goals this season got himself sent off against Lyon and will not be available for this game.
Amiens Finally On The Up
Amiens currently sit second from bottom in Ligue 1 but have slowly been improving recently with just two defeats in their last seven matches. The other five games ended as draws but the points will be welcome for this side that began the year with three straight defeats.
The Unicorns managed to snatch a point off of PSG a few weeks back in a crazy 4-4 draw but they were unable to recreate that same type of attacking prowess last weekend as they drew 0-0 with Strasbourg, failing to register a single shot within 25 yards of the goal. Three of their last five matches have all ended with that same goalless scoreline, however they will be looking to show a bit more going forward in this one as they have netted in 14 of their last 16 home matches.
At home Amiens have generally been a bit better with the two defeats in their last seven at the Stade de la Licorne seeing Montpellier and Monaco net late equalisers. Outwith that they have drawn with PSG, Dijon, Toulouse and Reims and beaten 3rd placed Rennes.
Neither Side To Snatch This Basement Battle?
Therefore, with this game being a bit of a basement battle – Amiens sit 19th, Metz 16th – we see this one playing out as a slugfest. Amiens won 2-1 when these teams last met in September but due to Amiens’ resurgence and Metz’s away form plagued with draws, we see this one finishing level. Metz were impressive against Lyon but without Habib Diallo we don’t expect them to get too many so we’re backing a 1-1 draw.
