Anderlecht vs Kortrijk Predictions
- Anderlecht have failed to win four of their last five home cup matches (all defeats).
- Kortrijk have lost only two games since the beginning of October – against Club and Cercle Brugge.
- Kortrijk have avoided defeat on their last three league visits to Lotto Park (1 win, 2 draws).
Mauves are too short in cup quarter-final
Anderlecht have been in good form of late, but so have Kortrijk – which makes the odds for Thursday’s Belgian Cup quarter-final seem too lopsided in favour of the hosts.
Vincent Kompany’s side are rated heavy odds-on shots to win this game in 90 minutes, which seems very skinny seeing as they failed to beat the same opponents at home in the league only a few weeks ago. They have won four and drawn two since that encounter, with one of those draws – against relegation-threatened RFC Seraing – resulting in the penalty shoot-out win that took them into the last eight.
Kortrijk, who have made it through to the semi-finals twice in the last four years, have similar form over their last six games and have only lost twice since the beginning of October when coach Karim Belhocine returned to the club. They are unbeaten in their last six away games under him and can give Anderlecht as much trouble here as they did last month when the visitors’ niggly approach led to the hosts finishing with ten men after Benito Raman’s red card for an apparent headbutt.
Hosts have ordinary cup record
The Mauves have won the cup only once in the last 25 years and last year’s run to the semi-finals was the furthest they had been in the past six seasons. It’s fair to say the Brussels club have an ordinary record in this competition with four home defeats in their last five coming into this pre-Christmas matchup.
The double chance market, therefore, looks tempting here and a 1-1 final scoreline is forecast because Kortrijk have conceded more than once in only two of their last 11 games while Anderlecht have kept only one home clean sheet since August.
