Can Anderlecht hit the ground running?

Anderlecht finished the 2021/22 season with a bit of a whimper, winning just two of their final seven games in all competitions, but they have had a decent pre-season that includes a 3-0 win over Lyon.

New signing Fabio Silva is in-line to make his debut after arriving on loan from Wolves and that certainly boosts the attacking options of a team who were already the joint second top scorers last year.

There’s also a new boss in the dugout, Felice Mazzù, who has arrived from Union SG, and he can draw on an outstanding record against Oostende, who Anderlecht have lost to just twice in their last eight meetings.

Oostende hoping to start strongly

Oostende suffered a 3-0 hammering at the hands of Anderlecht towards the end of last season, one of eight away defeats inflicted upon them in the Belgium First Division A.

Their defence was pretty weak throughout the campaign, conceding 61 times in just 34 matches, with their goal difference of -27 among the very worst in the division.

In 24 previous meetings between these two sides, they have also managed just two clean sheets, showing that historically they struggle against the 34-time Belgian champions.
