Angers vs Brest Predictions

Angers went into their last match before the international break sitting second as they travelled to the capital to face Paris but they were sent back to the Loire Valley with their tails between their legs as they were thrashed 4-0. Angers tried to take the game to PSG in parts but really got punished for it. However, Angers shouldn’t let this defeat deter them from attacking in this coming match as les Scoïstes have generally been incredible this season and fully deserve their lofty league position. 

Angers have scored the second most goals this season (16) and have done very well in punishing teams down on their luck, key examples being their victories over Bordeaux (3-1), Saint-Étienne (4-1) and Metz (3-0). Angers haven’t been the most defensively sound team in the league though as they are tied for second most goals conceded this season despite sitting third in Ligue 1. However, this stat is slightly bloated as ten of these goals came in their two awful defeats to PSG and Lyon (0-6). In their five games against newly promoted sides and teams that finished in last year’s bottom half they have conceded just twice. 

Newly-promoted Brest have won just one of their last six matches but crucially this came in their most recent game as they beat Metz 2-0 at home just before the break. Two defenders scored for Brest in a match lacking quality but it was a rare decisive performance from Les Ty’ Zefs as they picked up their second win of the season. 

Brest will be the visitors for this one but they haven’t been that convincing on the road with no wins in their last six away games. Even in Ligue 2 against weaker opposition they were very weak on the road as they won just four of their final dozen away games last season. Like Angers, Brest have also been very defensively fragile recently with eleven goals conceded in the five matches preceding their clean sheet against Metz. 

Brest may have won their most recent game but generally Angers have been playing at a very high level this season and we’re backing them to get back to winning ways here. Angers have been the best team at home this season and are still to lose at the Stade Raymond-Kopa this campaign. Brest have scored seven goals in their last four matches though so we’re backing them to score here. Ultimately we’re expecting Angers to win 3-1.
