Angers look doomed to relegation

Angers have found themselves eight points adrift at the bottom of Ligue 1 and while their spirits may have been lifted to a small degree by a draw against Auxerre in their last home game, they are already in deep trouble, which could get worse against Lyon.

The home side have conceded 50 goals in their 24 league games, 18 of which they have lost, so it is difficult to see them staying up, particularly as their last victory was on September 18.

All but two of their matches since then have ended in defeat so there seems little chance of them getting out of their predicament and another defeat to Lyon appears on the cards.

With eight points to make up on sixth spot, it looks likely Lyon will not do enough to earn a place in Europe next season but they have got their act together on the road.

Four wins have been gained in their last seven on the road – against Montpellier, Brest, Ajaccio and Troyes – and he hunger should be there after they slipped to a 2-1 loss at struggling Auxerre last week.

In relation to this match, it is worth noting that a goalless draw at Nantes and a 2-0 success at Ajaccio were the only times OL have kept a clean sheet and their lowly opponents have scored in ten of their last 11 home games, so backing an away win with both teams scoring looks the most sensible option.
