AEK continue huge week

After meeting Dinamo Zagreb twice in four days, AEK Athens are through to take on Antwerp in Champions League qualifying on Tuesday night. The Greek side rallied from 3-2 down on aggregate at home on Saturday night, scoring twice in added time to make the final round of qualifying.

They meet an Antwerp side who won the Belgian title in dramatic circumstances last term, which sent them into the Champions League for the first time since they met Real Madrid in the 1957/58 European Cup first round.

The Belgian side have featured in Europe over the last few years. They were knocked out at this stage of the Europa Conference League a year ago, while they finished bottom of their Europa League group in 2021. That doesn’t bode well for this clash with AEK.
