APOEL vs Asteras Tripolis Predictions
APOEL haven’t had the best of starts to their Europa League campaign. They predictably lost against Bundesliga side Schalke in the opening game before slipping to a 2-0 loss at Sparta Prague.
But this home match against Asteras Tripolis is a much more winnable encounter for the Cypriots, who are in excellent form if you discount their Europa League losses.
They have won six and drawn one of their seven league matches this season, leaving them at the top of the table with 19 points.
They have also managed to keep a clean sheet in all of their last four league matches, and considering Asteras Tripolis’ poor form at the moment they will be quite confident coming into this encounter.
Greek side Asteras Tripolis have only managed to win one of their last eight matches in all competitions, with three losses and four draws making up the remainder of the results.
This leaves them down in 7th place in the Greek Super League with a meagre nine points from their opening seven fixtures.
But Asteras did manage to get a draw at home to Sparta Prague in their opening match of the Europa League group stages. Unfortunately for them, this was followed by a 4-0 defeat to Schalke.
Neither of these two teams have much chance of making it to the latter stages of this competition. APOEL are already four points behind 2nd placed Sparta Prague, and Asteras Tripolis are three points adrift and in poor form.
APOEL actually hosted Asteras Tripolis in a friendly match back at the start of August, coming away with a 3-2 victory, which will be a bit of a confidence boost coming into this game.
I’m expecting APOEL to make it two out of two on Thursday and get another win over the Greeks, and odds of 19/20 for this look pretty favourable given Asteras Tripolis’ poor recent form.
