APOEL vs Olympiakos Predictions
With both Young Boys and Astana already eliminated from the Europa League thanks to head to head results, this is a straight up battle for the top spot in Europa League Group B.
APOEL currently hold the advantage with a point lead on Olympiakos, so a draw would be enough to claim the group win on Thursday. It helps that they managed to break out of a three match winless streak on Saturday with a 4-1 thrashing of Omonia Nicosia as well, so their confidence will be renewed heading into this match.
This victory keeps them in 3rd position in the Cyprus 1. Division, but with just two points separating them from the top spot they will want to keep their confidence high and go on a good run of form.
The Europa League has largely been successful for them this term. They lost to Astana last time round after getting defender Inaki Astiz sent off in the first half, and they also lost 3-1 away to Young Boys back in October. Other than that they have managed to win all the other three group games, including an away victory over Olympiakos in September.
Coincidentally, this was actually the last time Olympiakos fell to defeat. Since then they have won nine and drawn three of their 12 games in all competitions, putting them seven points clear at the top of the Greek Super League.
Avoiding defeat on Thursday could be difficult though. APOEL’s overall form may be a bit below par, but at home they have won seven and drawn one of their last eight games and haven’t lost since a Champions League qualifying defeat to Copenhagen.
This success, at least in the attacking sense, can be traced back to Pieros Soteriou and Georgios Efrem. The two attackers have scored 11 and eight goals respectively this season, with two apiece in the Europa League. Soteriou has bagged five in his last four home games though, so he looks the best choice for our anytime goalscorer predictions at 10/3.
Both of these teams are very good going forward. Olympiakos have only failed to score once on the road this season, but they are facing an APOEL side who haven’t failed to score at home in over a year. Backing Both Teams to Score at 10/11 looks a good option, and I’m going for that along with a 1-1 correct score predictions at 5/1.
