Arsenal vs AFC Wimbledon Predictions
- Arsenal beat West Brom 6-0 in the previous round of the Carabao Cup.
- The Gunners have won their last two games.
- All of Arsenal’s wins this season have been accompanied by clean sheets.
Arsenal can overpower Dons
The pressure has been lifted from Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta’s shoulders somewhat by back-to-back wins in the Premier League, but he still cannot afford any slip-ups against Wimbledon in Wednesday’s Carabao Cup meeting.
The Dons saw a five-game unbeaten run ended by Plymouth at the weekend but that shouldn’t detract from a strong start to the season and they go into this game with no pressure. Wimbledon have been good travellers in these early stages of the season and have four wins from six games in all competitions, drawing once and losing once – and that defeat came at League One leaders Sunderland.
Arteta named a strong starting XI in the previous round, a 6-0 demolition of a weakened West Brom team, as Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang made a surprise start and a few other regulars were in the first XI. The Gunners manager may decide to make a few more changes for a home game against third tier opponents, but it still seems as if he is taking this competition seriously so expect a few big names to be involved from the off.
The Gunners ran riot against the Baggies and could be in line for another big win here. With that in mind, a home win with a -2 handicap is my main bet and a 4-0 win for Arsenal has some appeal in the correct score market. Wimbledon have scored in five of their six away games but as all three of Arsenal’s wins this season have been accompanied by clean sheets I feel that pattern may continue here.
