Arsenal vs Chelsea Predictions
Arsenal sorely missed the absent Mesut Ozil last weekend. The Premier League assist leader was out injured, and Arsenal really struggled to create chances without him, eventually settling for a goalless draw against Stoke.
This was their 2nd draw in a row, but was a stark contrast to the 3-3 thriller at Anfield in midweek.
This means Arsenal come into this match having not lost any of their last five matches, and they have won seven of their last ten games in all competitions.
This puts them at the top of the Premier League table, ahead of Leicester on goal difference and one point above 3rd placed Manchester City.
Current Premier League champions Chelsea are nowhere to be seen though. They occupy a miserable 14th position in the table and are a mere four points above the relegation zone.
But Guus Hiddink has slowly started to turn things around. The Stamford Bridge outfit aren’t losing any more, but are still struggling to pick up maximum points.
Chelsea haven’t lost any of their last seven matches in all competitions, but they’ve only managed a win in three of those games.
They have been lucky not to lose though. Their 3-3 draw against Everton last weekend saw them score a blatantly offside 97th minute equaliser, and even the lacklustre Manchester United should have beaten them just before the end of the year.
Arsenal are by far the better team coming into this match, and the return of Mesut Ozil and, potentially, Alexis Sanchez will provide a huge boost to the team.
But I think Chelsea will set out to stop Arsenal from winning, rather than to win themselves. This means I’m expecting a low scoring affair that could potentially be a scrappy sort of match. Odds of 17/20 for Under 2.5 Goals look really good value too, and I’m backing that along with a 2-0 Arsenal Win at 9/1.
