Arsenal vs Southampton Predictions, Betting Tips and Match Previews

Arsenal managed to get back to winning ways on Sunday as an Alexis Sanchez double either side of a Theo Walcott goal helped them to a 3-1 win at home to Bournemouth. This followed on from three consecutive draws, although they remain unbeaten since the opening day of the Premier League season.

This unbeaten streak extends back 19 matches in all competitions, and despite their recent failures to win you can’t ignore the quality of their opposition. They have played Spurs, Manchester United, and PSG in the last couple of weeks.

Arsenal have a long history of giving youth a chance in the League Cup, and this season has seen the same level of rotation as ones prior to it. It hasn’t stopped them comfortably beating Nottingham Forest and Reading though, with Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain proving the most dangerous player with three goals in two matches. He has bagged a further two goals in other competitions as well, so he looks a great choice for our anytime goalscorer predictions at 11/4.

Arsenal have now conceded in six consecutive matches though, which will give Southampton top scorer Charlie Austin something to look forward to. The striker scored the only goal of the game just 46 seconds into the match on Sunday as has netted nine goals in all competitions this season. He comes in at 7/4 to score anytime so I definitely think that’s worth backing.

The Saints managed to get back to winning ways with this incredibly early goal against Everton on Sunday, but their overall form doesn’t look great. They have won two, drawn one, and lost three of their last six outings in all competitions.

Away from home it’s even worse for them, with three defeats and three draws being played out since their last victory. Earlier in the season they lost 2-1 at the Emirates as well, which is just one of the seven victories Arsenal have played out in their last ten home games.

Arsenal are definite favourites for this one. Their rotated squad still has a lot of quality in it and will be better rested than their Southampton counterparts. Add this to their overall good form and odds of 8/11 for them to get the win look very good value. I’m backing that along with a 2-1 correct score predictions at 7/1.
