Aston Villa vs Burton Albion Predictions
Villa Park looks like it could be a sell-out for the first time in five years for this Boxing Day clash and it is a game that the home side certainly should win as they look to close the gap on the top six.
The Claret & Blues come into this game on the back of a morale-boasting away victory at QPR and there hasn’t been much wrong with their home form. They boast the division’s only unbeaten home record and under Steve Bruce at least have successfully been converting 1 point into 3 on their own patch. Villa are bidding for a 5th straight home win here as they look to improve on a solid average of 2 points per game at home.
The goals haven’t flowed as much as Villa fans might like but in Jonathan Kodjia they do have a man who knows his way to goal and he is easily Villa’s biggest goal threat, with 8 goals in 17 Championship games for the club this season. Up against a Burton side that don’t travel well, backing Kodjia to score anytime at 11/10 looks a good bet here.
The Brewers are yet to record a Championship away win and their average of 0.45 points per game on their travels is the 2nd worst in the division. Their form overall is quite poor right now with only 1 win in 8 games coming into this and that was against the rock bottom Millers. They’ve lost all of their last 3 games, 2 of which were at the Pirelli and that will be a a major concern for Nigel Clough’s side who have been reliant on their home form to keep their heads above water.
Burton don’t have a massive squad and may struggle to cope with the busy festive period and certainly in this match, the gulf in class should be evident over 90 minutes. With Villa so strong at home and Burton poor away, backing Aston Villa to win at 4/6 looks a safe bet in what should be a home banker.
