Atletico Madrid vs Deportivo La Coruna Predictions

All things considered it was a good night for Atletico Madrid on Wednesday. They must have feared being cut adrift at this early stage in the season, given they’d already twice dropped points ahead of their trip to Camp Nou. However, a 1-1 draw in that game and Real Madrid’s failure to extend their 100% record at home against Villarreal means nothing has really changed between the ‘big three’ and Atleti have got their toughest match of the season out the way with no damage.

They may even have gone onto to win the game following Angel Correa’s equaliser on the hour and with Leo Messi off the pitch but Diego Simeone would still have been content to get back to the capital with a point and with his side still unbeaten in the league. They were clinical 5-0 winners at home to Sporting Gijon last weekend and up against another side expected to struggle, they should have little trouble bagging another 3 points here.

Deportivo La Coruna look to be in real danger this season. They’ve lost Lucas Perez who scored or created the majority of their goals last term and haven’t really found an adequate replacement. A 2-1 home defeat against newly promoted Leganes in midweek compounded their misery and it has been a tough start for new boss Gaizka Garitano. Their only win came on the opening day against Eibar, with Lucas Perez still in the team and on the score-sheet and they’ve managed just 1 goal in 4 matches since.

Given that it is very hard to see how Depor are going to trouble this excellent Atletico Madrid defence. Any temptation to be even remotely positive here would have been dispelled by Atleti’s two recent impressive attacking showings in the 4-0 win at Celta and 5-0 win over Sporting. Depor are likely to sit very deep and try to stay in the game for as long as possible but there is too much quality in the home side and backing Atletico Madrid to Win to Nil at 4/6 looks to offer value.
