Atletico Madrid vs Monaco Predictions

Atletico Madrid came into Champions League Group A as slight favourites to take the top spot ahead of the likes of Borussia Dortmund and Monaco, but it hasn’t been their usual standard of performance so far. They are still in a very strong position to qualify, holding a 5 point cushion over 3rd placed Club Brugge, but they lag behind Borussia Dortmund on goal difference and their shock 4-0 thrashing in Germany was a dismal display.

The real surprises in Group A have been Monaco though. The team that stunned PSG to win the Ligue 1 title in 2016/17, as well as making a deep run to the latter stages of the Champions League, are a shadow of their former selves. The talented youngsters that drove them forward in that season have dispersed among Europe’s top clubs, and Monaco find themselves in dire straits.

The visitors, now managed by the legendary Thierry Henry, sit bottom of Group A with just a single point to their name. All hope of qualifying for the knockout stages disappeared when they were hammered at home to Club Brugge last time out, but more worrying is the fact that they are still stranded in the Ligue 1 relegation zone.

Monaco did manage to get a win under their belt at the weekend, but prior to that they had failed to win 16 competitive games on the bounce. Ligue 1 survival will be their main focus right now, and a trip to the Wanda Metropolitano won’t be high on their wishlist.

Atletico Madrid, as we mentioned before, haven’t been their usual selves either. They have only lost twice this season, but one of these was a 4-0 demolition at Dortmund in October and that hints at the seeming decline of their usually stalwart back line. They have only kept a clean sheet in 1 of their 4 Champions League games so far and in 4 of their last 10 in all competitions.

Monaco aren’t exactly setting the world alight with their attacking play right now, but they have still found the net in 6 of their 9 competitive away games this season. We are certainly expecting a home win here, but the odds for both teams to find the net seem heavily inflated and backing Atletico Madrid to Win and Both Teams to Score looks a great option. We’re going for that along with a 3-1 correct score predictions.
