Augsburg vs Bayern Munich Betting Tips & Predictions

Augsburg went into the Bundesliga winter break in good form having won four of their five previous matches in all competitions, with only a 2-0 defeat to Borussia Dortmund marring their record.

But they haven’t managed to hit the same heights since returning from their holidays. They haven’t won any of their three Bundesliga matches in the second half of the season so far, with draws to Hertha Berlin and Eintracht Frankfurt preceding last weekend’s 2-1 defeat at Ingolstadt.

This leaves them in a slightly perilous position in the Bundesliga. They sit in 14^th position with just two points separating them from the relegation playoff position. This is a far cry from their Europa League qualifying position last season, but it’s largely down to their dreadful start to the season rather than a reflection of their overall ability.

Their quality may be much greater than their position suggests, but Augsburg are still going to struggle on Sunday. They are hosting the Bundesliga champions and runaway leaders Bayern Munich.

The visitors are eight points clear of 2^nd placed Borussia Dortmund at the top of the table, and so far this season they have only dropped seven points.

Bayern Munich comprehensively beat Bochum 3-0 in the DFB Pokal on Wednesday, a result which made it seven wins and a draw from their last eight matches in all competitions.

Their focus does seem to have shifted in the last couple of months though. They are no longer scoring five goals every game and instead seem content with scoring a couple of goals and keeping a very tight ship at the back.

They have conceded just one goal in their last eight competitive matches, but have scored a relatively low total of 13 goals during this period.

Considering Augsburg have failed to score in three of their last five competitive matches, I think this makes odds of 10/11 for Bayern Munich to Win to Nil excellent value for money. I’m also predicting a comfortable 2-0 Bayern Munich win at 5/1.
