An opportunity for Bayern to take revenge

Following an impressive four-game unbeaten run of Bundesliga games – which included a 1-0 win over Bayern – Augsburg were sent crashing back down to earth with a 3-2 defeat at the hands of Cologne.

Even so, they led in that game and have showed over the last few weeks that Augsburg are not the pushovers that many think they are after being touted amongst the relegation favourites before a ball was kicked.

Bayern have been floundering in league action but look to have cracked their poor form by scoring at least four goals in four of their last five matches. They still remain some way off the top of the table, but the ten-time champions are building up a head of steam and that’s likely to continue in this DFB Pokal clash.

Augsburg can sneak a goal

Augsburg’s win in the Bundesliga equivalent of this fixture last month shocked the footballing world and while we don’t think that’ll happen again, we predict that there is more value in backing Augsburg to at least score than to side with the visitors.

Enrico Maassen’s men have recorded one of the lowest shot totals in the Bundesliga, yet none of their last five opponents have kept them off the scoresheet.

As for the correct score, we’re going for another bag full of Bayern goals in what could be a hard-fought 3-1 victory for Julian Nagelsmann’s men as they look to avoid a third straight away defeat at the home of their Bavarian rivals.
