Augsburg vs Liverpool Betting Tips & Predictions

Augsburg had a dreadful start to the season and looked to be down and out in both the Bundesliga and the Europa League, but a good showing towards the end of 2015 saw them scrape through to the knockout stages of the competition.

They beat Partizan Belgrade and AZ Alkmaar (twice) in their last four group matches in the Europa League to finish 2^nd in the group behind Athletic Bilbao, but unfortunately for them they have started the second half of the season like they did the first half.

They haven’t won since the Bundesliga returned from it’s winter break, with two defeats and two draws in their four matches. This just shows the inconsistency of the Augsburg squad, who had won four of their five matches leading up to the mid-season break.

This, coupled with their poor form at the start of the season, still leaves them in a bit of trouble in the Bundesliga. They are only one point off the relegation playoff position and have only managed to pick up a point per game on average this season.

But inconsistency is no stranger to Liverpool either. Last weekend they let a two goal lead slip against Sunderland to draw and then followed it up with a defeat in the FA Cup 4^th Round Replay to West Ham. But then they turned on the style and thrashed Aston Villa 6-0 away from home on Sunday.

This ended their run of five matches without a win, and such a mauling is sure to have lifted their confidence after a poor run of results.

It’s a difficult one to call simply because of both sides potential for collapse. They have both been very inconsistent this season, but the fact that Liverpool have only won one of their last five Europa League away days indicates the difficulty they have on the road in Europe. This makes odds of 3/4 for an Augsburg Win or Draw Double Chance look good to me, and I’m predicting a 1-0 win for the home side at 17/2 as well.
