Augsburg
    Partizan Belgrade

      Tip Reasoning

After excelling last season, Augsburg have made a very poor start to the new campaign and perhaps their excellence in the previous year was more a case of over-achievement. With 4 points from 7 Bundesliga matches this term, they’ll have to be careful not to get sucked into a relegation battle but they won’t be thinking about that yet.

A first European home game is always a special occasion for any club and you sense it will come as a welcome distraction for Augsburg, who will receive strong backing at the WWK Arena. Partizan are usually fairly hospitable guests too in that they rarely cause home sides too much trouble in Europe these days.

Their last 11 Europa League Group Stage away matches have seen them lose 10 times and only pick up 1 point which came away to the less than mighty Neftci in 2012. You sense they almost go away from home expecting to lose and until they can find a cure for their travel sickness there is no way they are likely to make the knock-out stages.

Their 3-2 home win over AZ in the opening round of fixtures has given them a good platform to attack this group but it’s all too often a different story away from Belgrade and Augsburg should have too much for them.

There are pretty major defensive concerns though for the Germans who have conceded 12 goals in their last 5 fixtures although they have at least managed to score in all of those games. The visitors might feel there best chance is to try to really get at Augsburg’s jittery defense and that could lead to a fairly open game. Therefore backing Augsburg to win and there to be over 2.5 goals at 13/10 might be where the value lies.

Partizan are rarely convincingly beaten and with Augsburg struggling for their best form that seems likely again here so consider taking a punt on Augsburg to win 2-1 at 7/1.
