Austria vs Moldova Predictions
- Austria have scored at least two goals in six of their nine World Cup qualifiers for Qatar 2022.
- Moldova have conceded at least two goals in eight of their nine World Cup qualifiers for Qatar 2022.
Austria looking to finish strongly
Austria know they are heading to the play-offs, but the way that they brushed Israel aside on Friday night suggests motivation in the camp is very high going into their final group game of a disappointing qualifying campaign.
Although Franco Foda’s side will sneak into March’s play-offs via the Nations League route, they will want to finish off as strongly as possible against the minnows from Moldova. The visitors have only one point to show from their nine previous outings, but have at least kept the scores respectable in all but one of those – the 8-0 mauling they received from Denmark.
Moldova have limited damage against all but Denmark
Bar that debacle, Roberto Bordin’s team have conceded an average of 2.25 goals per game, which makes it tricky to recommend any bet for an Austrian landslide here.
And while we believe the heavy odds-on hosts will win, the chance of Austria scoring at least two goals is almost as good and offers a greater return to a big stakes play. Taking over 1.5 goals may seem a bit conservative to some, but the hosts missed a hatful of chances in the first half against Israel and it has been a recurring theme for them throughout 2021.
The likeliest result won’t include any Moldova goals as they have scored just four so far in the group, which makes a 2-0 home win look about right in correct score betting.
