Austria vs Romania Predictions

• Seven of Romania’s last eight matches have featured at least three goals
• Both teams have scored in five of Austria’s last seven home games
• Austria have lost just one of their last 13 matches on their own patch

Romania have had their confidence boosted

Austria lost 3-1 on aggregate in their Nations League playoff against Serbia, but they have been one of the up-and-coming teams in European football over the last couple of seasons and they will be confident they can get their World Cup qualifying campaign off to a winning start against Romania.

However, this looks set to be a high-scoring game with their opponents having boosted their confidence since a group exit from the Euros with a string of Nations League successes.

They won all six of their Group C2 matches against Kosovo, Cyprus and Lithuania and while the quality of opposition is nothing to get carried away about, they should be encouraged by scoring 18 goals in those outings.

Austrians should come out on top

Romania were brought back down to earth by a 1-0 home defeat to Bosnia in their home qualifier and it is difficult to read too much into their subsequent 5-1 success over San Marino, but they do seem likely to be positive for this trip.

It is difficult to see them coming out on top against a team who have been beaten in just one of their last 12 home matches, so while over 2.5 goals looks the main bet, Austria look the likely winners with a 2-1 home win put up as a correct-score selection.
