Scots to draw a blank in Vienna

Scotland claimed a vital win at the weekend but they struggled to finish their chances in a 1-0 home win over Moldova. That doesn’t bode well for a tough fixture as Steve Clarke’s men prepare to visit Austria.

The hosts lost 5-2 to Israel at the weekend but they were able to take their chances in that clash. They’ve had a mixed time at home in this group, seeing off the Faroe Islands 3-1 before losing 4-0 to Denmark.

However, the Austrians showed their quality at Euro 2020 by beating Ukraine 1-0 in a must-win clash before taking Italy to extra-time at Wembley. They’ve also scored twice in four of their five games in this group, something the Scots look unlikely to match right now.

Scotland struggled to finish in the Euros too and they are likely to fall short in this one as a result. Austria twice took the lead at Hampden when these two met back in March and we’re backing them to hold firm here given Scotland’s misfiring run of form.
