Manchester United vs Brighton Predictions

  • United have conceded in eight of their last 10 games
  • Brighton have kept a clean sheet in only one of their last nine
  • These two have seen both teams score in five of their last six league meetings
  • Brighton have drawn 1-1 in four of their last six Premier League matches

Pressure growing on United

It was another weekend in which all the top four contenders failed to impress, which spared United’s blushes. The Red Devils dropped points at home to Southampton, after which Saints boss Ralph Hasenhuttl stated that United’s weaknesses were plain to see.

A defeat for Tottenham and a draw for West Ham mean that the Red Devils haven’t lost ground in the fight for fourth. With this midweek bringing a game in hand against Brighton, Ralf Rangnick has the chance to haul his team into the top four.

Open secret to be exposed again

United’s defensive failings have led to a run of only two clean sheets in 10 games, with the hosts conceding in five of their last six outings. Those issues are coming because opponents know United’s pressing approach isn’t working, so if you remain patient you’ll get chance to hurt the Red Devils.

Given Graham Potter’s growing reputation in the top-flight, you’d expect Brighton to be well aware of how the Red Devils work. While the Seagulls aren’t known for being a clinical outfit, they have scored in each of their last nine matches. I can see them being a problem for the United defence on Tuesday.

Familiar score for Brighton

Both of these sides have issues at the back, with Brighton keeping their only clean sheet in nine games in a shutout victory over goal-shy Watford at the weekend. The visitors have conceded a goal in 75% of their away trips this term, so both teams to score is my selection for this one.

Brighton head into this clash having seen eight 1-1 draws in the Premier League already this term. The Seagulls have seen that score land in five of their 12 away games, while it has also landed in four of their last six league games. With United drawing 1-1 in each of their last three, that’s a good option for a correct score pick here.
