Brighton Double Chance (Win or Draw)

Reason for tip

Brighton lost just four of their 19 away games last season.  United won just one of their final six Premier League games and have failed to win their last three pre-season friendlies.

Draw 1-1

Reason for tip

The Seagulls had a joint league-high eight away draws last season and six of those finished 1-1, while United averaged exactly one goal per-game over their final nine fixtures

Manchester United vs Brighton Predictions

  • Brighton won 4-0 when these sides last met at the Amex Stadium in May.
  • The Seagulls avoided defeat in 15 of their 19 trips last season.
  • United won just one of their final six games last season and have failed to win their last three friendlies.
  • Six of Brighton’s Premier League away games finished 1-1 in 2021/22.

United begin Ten Hag era

Erik ten Hag’s tenure in charge of Manchester United begins in earnest on Sunday as they entertain Brighton at Old Trafford.

The Seagulls thrashed United 4-0 at the Amex Stadium in May and the hosts will be looking for revenge, but Brighton shouldn’t be underestimated despite the departures of Marc Cucurella and Yves Bissouma over the summer.

United’s pre-season campaign doesn’t exactly inspire confidence, they’ve failed to win their last three friendlies, and the drama surrounding Cristiano Ronaldo’s desire to leave the club has been an unwelcome distraction for Ten Hag.

Visitors can get a result

United have won each of their last seven opening round games but that run may well be ended by a stubborn Seagulls side on Sunday.

Ultimately, I think the Old Trafford club can go on and enjoy a strong campaign under the former Ajax boss but they might not hit the ground running and the Seagulls were a tough side to beat last term.

Graham Potter’s men only lost four of their 19 away games last season and they ended the campaign with just one defeat in their final nine games – and that loss came at champions Manchester City.

A draw is a tempting option, but the odds-against price on Brighton or a draw in the double chance market looks a better move as that covers an unlikely win for the visitors as well.

Goals could be in short supply

Brighton will set up with a defensive formation and as United failed to score in three of their final six games last term we may not see a great deal of goalmouth action on Sunday.

That said, both teams have the quality to make a breakthrough and a 1-1 result looks to have a chance in the correct score market.

The Seagulls had a joint league-high eight away draws last season and six of those finished 1-1, while United averaged exactly one goal per-game over their final nine fixtures.
