      Barcelona vs Eibar Predictions

Barcelona against Eibar is the ultimate David and Goliath clash and it would be a remarkable story if Eibar were to manage to beat one of Spain’s big two during their time in La Liga however long that might be.

The way they have been playing this season there is no reason why they can’t give Barcelona a run for their money here. They come into the game in 7th place and have only been beaten once in 8 matches so far. They are unbeaten on the road with wins coming at Granada and last time out Las Palmas and they’ve only conceded 3 goals in 4 away days so far.

Their overall defensive record is one of the best in the league and they’ve conceded 4 fewer goals than Barcelona. The Catalans may come into this game level on points with leaders Real Madrid but they have been far from their best this season already suffering 2 defeats and several of their wins have been unconvincing affairs.

The Catalans will again be without Lionel Messi and perhaps still Andres Iniesta, arguably their two most influential players . Iniesta has returned to training and could feature although perhaps from the bench as he fights back from a hamstring injury.

Eibar will come with a very different attitude to Rayo Vallecano who tried to beat Barcelona at their own game last weekend and were unfortunate to end up with a 5-2 defeat. The Basque sides will be far more cautious and are more likely to replicate the approach of Malaga and Las Palmas who both only succumbed to 1 goal defeats at the Camp Nou.

Eibar are rarely on the wrong end of a thrashing and were only beaten by more than 2 goals on 3 occasions last season, which isn’t bad when you consider they ended up in the relegation zone. They are an improved outfit this year under new management and at 10/11 they look decent value to at worst suffer a 2 goal defeat here.

It is still very hard to see them getting anything out of the game though. Barcelona might not be at their best but they are still a class act and have only dropped points in 1 of their last 11 La Liga home games.

EIbar failed to score against Real Madrid or Barcelona last season and it feels a bit like they’d be willing to take a narrow defeat and move on with their confidence still in tact so consider backing Barca to win 2-0 at 13/2.
