Barcelona To Win To Nil

Reason for tip

Barcelona have kept clean three sheets in four matches this season, while they have only conceded two goals in six previous meetings with Czech teams, picking up five wins in the process. Viktoria Plzen on the other hand have lost seven of their previous nine away Champions League group stage matches

Barcelona 2-0

Reason for tip

Barcelona won 2-0 when they sides last meet at Camp Nou 11 years ago, while they have scored at least two goals in three of their four matches in 2022/23. Plzen on the other hand have conceded in two of their three away Champions League qualifiers this summer, while 10 of their last 15 UCL matches on the road have seen their defence breached at least twice

Barcelona vs FK Viktoria Plzen Predictions

  • Barcelona have kept clean sheets in three of their four games this season
  • Viktoria Plzen have only ever won two of nine away UCL group matches
  • Barcelona are unbeaten in six previous matches against Czech teams

Barcelona hoping for better than last year

A shock exit in the group stages of the Champions League last year must be improve upon by Barcelona, who have started the season by winning three of their four games.

The other fixture ended in a 0-0 draw on the opening day against Rayo Vallecano, meaning they have kept clean sheets in 75% of their games so far.

On top of that, Xavi’s side have faced Czech Republic sides on six previous occasions and picked up five wins, conceding just two goals in the process.

Can Plzen convert domestic form?

Viktoria Plzen have had a super start to the Czech Liga season, picking up 16 of an available 18 points, but whether they can convert that form to European football is another matter.

Michal Bílek’s side have lost seven of their previous nine away Champions League group stage matches, including a 2-0 defeat when they last visited Camp Nou in 2011.

They came through three rounds of qualifying to reach this stage, but Barcelona will be a different kettle of fish to HJK, Sheriff and Qarabag, the latter of whom they drew with 0-0 away from home.

I predict that Barcelona will win this match to nil, with 2-0 my correct score prediction.
