      Barnsley vs Rochdale Predictions

Barnsley continued to prove their promotion credentials last weekend, as they went away to Kingsmeadow, which is not the easiest place to visit, and smashed their opponents to pieces. Having recorded a convincing win on the road last time out, Daniel Stendel’s men will approach this home game full of confidence. The same cannot be said for the visitors.

Daniel Stendel’s side delivered another destructive display last weekend and are now emerging as chief promotion contenders. They’ve still got a bit of ground to make up, though if they can recent levels, then it won’t be long before Barnsley are breathing down the necks of those currently occupying the automatic places.

When they were last in action at this venue, Barnsley ran away with proceedings against Bradford, who share plenty of similarities with Rochdale, especially in the defensive third. On that occasion, the Tykes made light work of both creating chances and scoring goals, so there’s plenty for the visitors to fear.

Not only are Barnsley capable of running riot offensively on their own patch, but they also give little away. Saturday’s hosts have conceded an average of just 0.76 expected goals for this season, while they’re also shipping considerably less than a goal at game at Oakwell. No team has returned from the Tykes’ corner of Yorkshire with all three points during the current campaign.

As for Rochdale’s efforts on the road, well, it’s fair to say that Keith Hill’s men have been struggling. They did stop the rot with that draw against Fleetwood last weekend, but Saturday’s visitors have now gone five without a win, while they’ve won just one of their last seven on the road.

Rochdale have two clear problems away from home. Firstly, they’re giving far too much away, as the fact that they’ve conceded a total of 19 goals in their last seven travelling matches suggests, while they’re finding it very tough to create more than their opponents. Dale have been outperformed in terms of expected goals in eleven of their 14 away games during the current campaign.

With Rochdale floundering at present, this is a massive opportunity for the in-from Tykes to continue marching forward. Given that they’ve simply offered mountains more than their opponents, especially in the final third, the bet that stands out is ‘Barnsley to Win & Over 1.5 Goals’. With an average of 1.77 expected goals for at home, against a side that has surrendered an average of 1.62 on the road, Barnsley can score twice on their way to beating inferior opposition.
