Bayer to bounce back

Bayer Leverkusen look like the best bet when they host Freiburg at the BayArena on Sunday as they aim to bounce back from conceding seven to Paris St-Germain in midweek.

They are five places and five points above Freiburg in the table. The hosts, who have won four, drawn two and lost one this season, are fifth, while Freiburg are tenth with two wins, three draws and two defeats.

Bayer Leverkusen maintained their winning run with a 4-3 victory away at Mainz last weekend. Alejandro Grimaldo scored twice, including the opener from the penalty spot in the 11th minute, and Patrik Schick also netted for Leverkusen. They have now won four of the seven games in which they’ve scored first this season (57%).

Bayer Leverkusen are in good form. They have gone unbeaten in six of the last seven Bundesliga head-to-head meetings with Freiburg and have lost just one of their last eight league games. They are going for a fourth successive win.

Bayer Leverkusen have been racking up the goals in recent games, scoring in 12 consecutive matches, including that 4-3 win over Mainz last weekend. They have scored three goals or more in three of their seven Bundesliga games this season and are averaging 2.50 goals a game in their four games against bottom-half teams.

The visitors’ recent form has been disappointing, with Freiburg now without a win in three Bundesliga games.
