Wirtz to make a difference

Bayer Leverkusen’s extraordinary unbeaten season moved one step closer to coming to fruition at the weekend as they demolished Eintracht Frankfurt, and they can keep the train rumbling on when they look to see out a 2-0 advantage in the Europa League semi-final on Thursday.

Florian Wirtz and Robert Andrich were the goalscorers in the Italian capital last week and the former of these is who I am backing to make the difference back in Leverkusen. Wirtz has scored 18 and assisted 15 in all competitions this season and was afforded a rest at the weekend, while he has notched seven across his last seven starts for the Germans.

Roma battling on two fronts

Unlike their hosts, Roma still have plenty to play for domestically as they battle for Champions League qualification, but that challenge took a minor hit at the weekend as they drew with Juventus.

This leaves them with just one win from their last five in all competitions and they will need to find another gear or two if they are to derail the Bayer Leverkusen train.

Goals expected at the BayArena

What we can expect at the BayArena is plenty of goals. The Leverkusen faithful have seen 91 goals scored in their 24 competitive home games this season and 20 of them have featured at least three goals, including eight of their last ten, so backing over 2.5 goals looks appealing.
