Bayern Munich vs Manchester City Predictions
- City have won 10 straight games, scoring 37 goals along the way
- Haaland has found the net an incredible 14 times across his last six appearances
- City are unbeaten in 19 of their last 20 meetings with Bundesliga opposition, winning 16
- Bayern have won once in their last four games
City search for treble step
Manchester City made it 10 wins on the spin with a victory over Leicester at the weekend, keeping their treble dream alive. The next week is crucial for the Citizens across three fronts, with an FA Cup semi-final at the weekend followed by their title clash with Arsenal.
While those are two decisive clashes in City’s trophy chase, Wednesday’s visit to Bayern Munich doesn’t feel quite as risky. The visitors pulled off an impressive 3-0 victory against Bayern at the Etihad and they take a comfortable cushion with them to Bavaria for this clash. The German champions face an uphill battle turning things around, while they still have to contain a City side who are in stellar form.
Early trouble for Tuchel
Thomas Tuchel has only been in charge of Bayern for five games, but already there are some issues for the former Chelsea boss. The German giants have huge expectations – which saw Julian Nagelsmann lose his job – but Tuchel has won just one of his last four games in charge.
Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Hoffenheim was a setback for Bayern’s title charge domestically, having lost to Freiburg in their home game before that. Things clearly aren’t coming as easily for Tuchel’s side as they did in his debut 4-2 win over Borussia Dortmund, where Bayern were helped by some terrible defensive errors.
Now Tuchel needs to get his team geared up for a Champions League clash against probably the best side in Europe, knowing the gap between them is almost unassailable. Not only do they need at least three goals, they have to find a way to keep City and Erling Haaland quiet.
Surging City to prove too strong
Not only have City won 10 straight games, but they’ve also scored at least three times in eight of those games. City have hit 37 goals in that run, with Haaland continuing his brilliant debut season in England.
Haaland has scored 11 Champions League goals for Manchester City this season and he heads into this clash with 14 goals scored across his last six appearances. That fantastic return means he’s the man to stop in Munich, while the quality of the opposition has boosted his anytime scorer odds. Look for the Norweigian to net again this week, after chipping in with a goal and an assist in the first leg.
Manchester City have only lost one of their last 20 matches against German teams in the Champions League, winning 16. They’ve also won eight of nine clashes with Bundesliga sides in the knockout rounds, so look to the visitors to wrap this one up with a victory. Back the Premier League champions for a 2-1 victory in Munich, with their scoring talent likely to be too much.
