Bayern Munich vs Tottenham Hotspur Predictions
- Both Bayern Munich and Tottenham have already secured passage to the knock-out rounds.
- Jose Mourinho is expected to ring the changes in Munich to keep his players fresh.
- Bayern hammered Spurs 7-2 in London in the reverse Group B meeting between the teams in October.
- The Bavarians have kept only four clean sheets in their last 13 fixtures.
Both teams assured of qualification
Bayern Munich and Tottenham Hotspur close out their successful Group B campaigns against each other in Germany on Wednesday and, with little riding on the result at the Allianz Arena, supporters should be treated to an exciting, open contest. The Bavarians have already secured top spot in the section after their perfect run of five wins from five, and having demolished a full-strength Spurs outfit 7-2 in London in October, the Bundesliga champions will be confident they can complete the double over Tottenham this week.
With qualification already in the bag and a tough assignment against Wolves on the horizon, Spurs’ Head Coach Jose Mourinho has already hinted he is ready to make several changes to his team in Munich. That could mean fringe players Juan Foyth, Kyle Walker-Peters, Giovani Lo Celso, Oliver Skipp and Ryan Sessegnon all feature.
Having watched his team lose two Bundesliga fixtures on the bounce, interim Bayern boss Hans-Dieter Flick could resist any temptations to change his own XI around too much however, and that should considerably heighten Die Roten’s chances of turning a weakened Tottenham team over.
Bayern’s superb home record
Despite their domestic woes, Bayern remain an incredibly tough nut to crack in the Champions League, especially in Munich where they have been beaten only three times in 29 outings against the continent’s best and brightest. Bayern suffered an unlikely home reverse in their last league game on their own patch in a 2-1 loss to Bayer Leverkusen, though their 4-0 battering of Dortmund in their home fixture directly before that shone a light on just how devastating der FCB can be when they are on song.
The clean sheet Bayern secured against their traditional domestic rivals that afternoon was a rarity, though; in fact, Die Roten have kept their opponents off the scoresheet just four times in their last 13 attempts in all competitions.
When the clubs faced off in October, Spurs breached Bayern’s rearguard twice on their way to being torn asunder, and we think Tottenham can notch a consolation against their hosts again on Wednesday.
Bayern to take advantage of changed Spurs XI?
Spurs rattled five goals past Bournemouth at the weekend in their most impressive performance since Mourinho’s appointment, though any momentum gained from that emphatic victory over the Cherries will count for little if the Portuguese manager makes sweeping changes to his team.
Bayern are almost certain to have too much quality for what promises to be a makeshift Spurs XI, making the home win and both teams to score combination an attractive market for this week’s encounter.
Bayern have been scoring for fun in Group B so far, averaging 4.2 goal per 90 minutes and hitting three or more goals in four of their five matches. The Bavarians should enjoy playing without pressure against a depleted Spurs team on Wednesday and we’re tipping them to maintain their goal healthy goal average with a 4-1 win.
