Belgium vs Czech Republic Predictions

  • Belgium have won 12 of their last 15 matches (Drawn two, Lost one).
  • Belgium have conceded in four of their last five competitive home games.
  • Czech Republic lost four of their last five away games prior to the Euro 2020 Finals.
  • The visitors are without their Euro 2020 Finals joint-leading scorer Patrick Schick through suspension.

Belgium so good they can shift gear at will

Belgium overcame a slight bump in their path to qualifying for Qatar 2022 when they smashed five past Estonia in Tallinn on Thursday.

Roberto Martinez’s side trailed early on in that one and also conceded another a few minutes after they had rattled in their fifth goal of the night.

It might be viewed as sloppy that they didn’t keep the Baltic side out, but the Red Devils know they are good enough to step on the gas and destroy such teams at will that they can appear a bit casual.

Their results over the past couple of years shows that they are usually tighter when the opposition carry a threat and that would seem to be the case for Sunday’s clash with the Czech Republic.

Belgium needed a Romelu Lukaku rescue act to salvage a point on a filthy March night in Prague when the two sides last met.

It finished 1-1 in the rain, but both teams hit the woodwork on a couple of occasions too, so there could be a few goals in this if they take the same attacking approach.

Some key players are missing for both sides, however, such as the suspended Patrick Schick and unfit Kevin de Bruyne.

We still think there’s enough attacking nous on both sides to get on the scoresheet, although Belgium’s impressive current run and the road struggles of Jaroslav Šilhavý’s side point to a home win on Sunday.

The likelihood of Lukaku leaving Czech defenders trailing in his wake like this past spring adds to our view that Belgium can win the return clash 3-1.
