Benfica vs Gil Vicente Predictions

• Benfica have won three of their six home league games this season by three goals or more.
• Benfica won 5-1 at Estoril last weekend.
• Gil Vicente lost 4-1 to Arouca in the cup this week and will have two players suspended on Sunday.

Benfica too strong for suspension-ravaged Roosters 

Two teams that have moved in completely different trajectories this season meet on Sunday at Estadio da Luz when Primeira Liga leaders Benfica should comfortably dispose of struggling Gil Vicente.  The Eagles soaring form continued last weekend with a 5-1 win at mid-table Estoril and something of a similar nature should be on the cards when they entertain the relegation-threatened Roosters.

Like Estoril last week, Gil Vicente are going to be without two suspended players after they received red cards in their midweek cup loss at home to Arouca. The team from Barcelos have won on their last two visits to the Luz and finished only two places behind Benfica last season, albeit 23 points back.

Gil Vicente will arrive in Lisbon on the back of four straight defeats, during which they have scored three and conceded ten goals. Ivo Vieira is coming under some pressure, and his team is probably starting a wide-margin defeat in the face here.

Mighty Musa can deliver another goal 

Some of the defending in Wednesday’s 4-1 loss to Arouca was woeful and it is easy to imagine Benfica’s lively attackers and creative midfield players running amok against a similar performance.

Peter Musa, who has scored in three of his last four appearances for the Eagles, appeals as an anytime scorer in this spot and should play some part after being replaced just after the hour mark in midweek.

But the main play has to be Benfica to win by three goals or more – as they have done in half of their home league games this season, which includes two 5-0 wins in their last three at the Luz.
