Besiktas vs Borussia Dortmund Predictions

  • Borussia Dortmund have won three of their last four Champions League away games, including at Sevilla and Zenit St Petersburg.
  • Besiktas have failed to win three of their last four European games (Lost two, drawn 1).
  • Erling Braut Haland has scored 20 goals in his first 16 Champions League games.

Haaland to tame Black Eagles

Besiktas’ defence will face their sternest test of recent times when Erling Braut Haaland walks out at the Vodafone Arena on Wednesday night.

The Champions League’s ten-goal top scorer from last season has picked up where he left off before his restful summer by contributing five of Dortmund’s 13 Bundesliga goals – including two plus an assist in their 4-3 win at Bayer Leverkusen on Saturday.

The Black Eagles may have been defensively sound in domestic action, where they have kept four straight league clean sheets this term, but going up against Haaland and Marco Rose’s rampant Dortmund team at the moment is in a different sphere.

No team in Europe’s top five leagues is currently averaging more goals per game than the Yellows – where Rose’s midfield diamond accommodates the creativity of Marco Reus and running power of Jude Bellingham.

No doubt Besiktas will fancy their chances of scoring on Wednesday, given Dortmund have shipped 12 in their last five games.

But their record against German clubs is very poor with four defeats and a draw from the five previous clashes with Bundesliga opposition.

The hosts have injury doubts over three key players, who were all withdrawn in their 3-0 weekend win over Malatyaspor –  Domogoj Vida, Alex Teixeira and Georges-Kevin N’Koudou.

BVB will travel without long-term casualties Emre Can, Giovanni Reyna and Thorgan Hazard so don’t expect too many changes from Rose – although it looks like Mats Hummels will be available after injury.

We’re of the opinion that Haaland can’t fail to continue his better-than-a-goal-a-game record in top-level European competition by scoring at least once in what should be a comfortable 3-1 away win.
