Birmingham vs Ipswich Predictions
Birmingham boss Gary Rowett was handed a contract extension this week and it was well deserved given the job he has done at the club. The Blues put in their most polished performance yet last weekend to win 3-0 at high-flying Derby despite the recent departure of star winger Demarai Gray.
It is 10 points from 4 games in the league now for them and they are now only 2 points below this weekend’s opponents Ipswich Town in 7th place. The Tractor Boys are only outside of the play-off places on goal difference and the winner here could move into the top six.
Ipswich are in good form too and won’t have been too concerned by their FA Cup exit at Portsmouth in midweek given they made 11 changes for the game. In the league they are unbeaten in 5 matches and haven’t lost any of their last 7 away from home. 5 of those games have been wins so they will travel to the Midlands in confident mood despite Birmingham’s good form.
We are getting towards the stage of the season when these sort of games really matter between two teams close to each other and with similar ambitions. It could be a cagey affair with neither manager wanting to suffer defeat and respectful of their opponents qualities.
There aren’t usually many goals at St Andrews and there have been 2 or fewer in 8 of the last 10 Championship matches at the ground. Ipswich’s last two league away games have finished 0-0 and 1-0 too so consider backing there to be under 2.5 goals in this one at 4/6.
It’s hard to pick a winner in this one given neither side have lost many games of late so a low scoring draw is likely so consider backing it to finish 1-1 at 11/2.
