Birmingham vs Bristol City Predictions
The visitors have been a breath of fresh air in the division so far. Unlike MK Dons and Preston who have been fairly cautious over the past few weeks, since their promotion, Bristol City have continued with the same attacking philosophy that fired them to the League One title last year.
They are unlikely to change that at St Andrews but with Birmingham at home and in good form the onus will be on them to take the game to their opponents and that should lead to an open game. Blues have scored twice in 5 of their 6 games so far this season and once in the other but aren’t completely convincing at the back either so you can certainly see both teams netting here at 8/11.
The league table suggests there is a big gap between the sides with Birmingham riding high in 7th with a game in hand on all the clubs above them. Bristol City are down 19th and only have 4 points to show for their efforts with 3 of them surprsingly coming at Middlesbrough but have shown enough to suggest they could be a bit better than mere relegation strugglers.
It is very early days and in reality these are quite evenly matched sides and may both veer towards mid-table when everything settles down. Birmingham have been quite strong at home since Gary Rowett took charge but they draw a lot and have only won two Championship home games by more than a single goal in the last two years.
Therefore this is likely to be close and given Bristol City have only lost one of their last 10 away league games including that win at the Riverside last time out, they’ll come with confidence and are well capable of picking up a point here.
With goals likely, perhaps the value lies in backing this to finish 2-2 at 12/1 and both sides have already been involved in matches that have ended with that scoreline so far this season.
