Cottagers to bounce back against The Blues

Fulham beat Birmingham City 2-0 at St Andrews in the League Cup towards the end of August and Marco Silva’s men can repeat that success when they take on The Blues this Wednesday night.

The Cottagers suffered a shock 1-0 defeat at newly promoted Blackpool on Saturday, but they remain in the top two thanks to four wins and a draw from their opening five Championship games.

Fulham were undeniably poor at Bloomfield Road three days ago, however, we’re more inclined to weigh up this contest taking all early season form into account.

The Cottagers were rampant prior to the international break when winning five on the spin in all competitions including that aforementioned 2-0 cup success here, and there’s every reason to believe they can bounce straight back in midweek.

Birmingham have responded to their cup exit by claiming four points from subsequent league matches against Barnsley (1-1) and Derby County (2-0), and City look set to be tough customers this term under Lee Bowyer.

Nonetheless, their defeat to Fulham and league reverse by the same score-line against Bournemouth last month indicate that The Blues may come up a tad short against the big teams this term, and we foresee that being the case here.

While Fulham’s weekend disappointment is an obvious negative, it has pushed their price out to odds-against for this trip to St Andrews and that looks generous. The Cottagers can get back on track in the Midlands and we’re tipping up a 1-2 correct score in their favour.
