Tip Reasoning

  • Fewer than three goals have been scored in seven of Boavista’s last ten home league games.
  • Fewer than three goals have been scored in four of Vitoria Guimaraes’ last five away league contests.
  • Nine of the last 11 competitive meetings between the clubs have featured fewer than three goals.
  • Vitoria Guimaraes have won two of their last three away league games by 1-0 scorelines.

Boavista without key players for Guimaraes visit

Boavista secured safety with their 2-1 win at Moreirense on Sunday, but paid a price that will probably affect their goal power for Friday’s home matchup against Europa-chasing Vitoria Guimaraes. The Chequered ones had two players plus coach Petit sent off in the closing stages while key midfielder Ilija Vuktovic also collected a ban for accumulated yellow cards.

The suspension of leading scorer Petar Musa, who is currently in the middle of being transferred to Benfica for next season, figures to be a big problem for the hosts. The striker, who scored his 11th league goal of the campaign last weekend, has missed two games since he arrived in August and Boavista lost both with a combined score of 0-5.

Os Conquistadores, therefore, catch a break as they head to Porto in search of the victory that will maintain pressure on fifth-placed Gil Vicente for the Europa Conference League ticket they desire. Guimaraes have won two of their last three away trips – both 1-0 – and have managed no more than one goal in six of their last seven league fixtures, although admittedly that was in a 4-0 home demolition of Pacos de Ferreira.

This fixture has a chequered past for goals

Backing unders on the goals looks the safest way to go here because, although Pepa’s team have the better team on paper and the greater motivation, their away record has been the reason why they aren’t occupying fifth-place already.

Guimaraes have won only four of their 16 road games this term, drawing five and losing seven. It’s a record that makes them questionable favourites here even in the circumstances of Boavista being without key players.

Odd of around 4/5 on unders are acceptable given fewer than three goals have been scored in seven of Boavista’s last ten home league games and in four of Vitoria Guimaraes’ last five away league contests. This is also a fixture that traditionally hasn’t been an open and entertaining affair by the look of the record books, which shows nine of the last 11 competitive meetings as landing under 2.5 goals.
