Under 2.5 Match Goals

Reason for tip

This fixture has been a graveyard for goals in recent times with 11 of the last 14 competitive meetings between the clubs featuring fewer than three strikes. More recently, fewer than three goals have been scored in four of Boavista’s last six home games and in six of Vitoria Guimaraes’ last 10 league contests. Additionally, the hosts have failed to score in two of their last three home league matches.

Goals at a premium in Porto

Goals could be at a premium when Vitoria Guimaraes travel to Estadio do Bessa to take on struggling Boavista in Friday’s Primeira Liga contest.

After surging up the table with five wins and a draw from six games played between late January and early March, Os Conquistadores have lost their way in recent weeks. Moreno Teixeira’s men have taken a solitary point from their last three league games, which included a 5-1 shellacking from Benfica.

They will head to Porto without suspended striker Alisson Safira and attacking midfielder Tiago Silva, who just happen to be their two leading scorers in the league this term. But the visitors will be boosted by the return of highly-rated centre-back Ibrahima Bamba from injury.

Clash could be another hard watch for home fans

Boavista lost their third game in a row when they went down 4-2 to Maritimo in Funchal last weekend. It was a mistake-ridden performance and, although they fought back from 3-0 down and had a chance to equalise, they had left themselves far too much to do.

Petit will put an emphasis on defending properly and starting well in this game, which looks destined to be another hard watch for home fans who have seen their side score just once in the last three games at the Bessa.

It could be a low-scoring contest with under 2.5 goals looking like a mark that may not be easily passed. Three of the last four meetings between these have finished all square with two of them 1-1 draws, so that makes the most sense as a correct score play.
