Bayern’s season is approaching its breaking point

Bayern Munich’s season appears to have reached breaking point and Sunday’s trip to face relegation-threatened Bochum will not be a case of simply turning up and taking all three points.

The German champions now trail Bayer Leverkusen by five points after their 3-0 humbling at the hands of Xabi Alonso’s side last weekend. Thomas Tuchel is already being talked about in the past tense in the wake of that loss and another against Lazio in midweek that made it back-to-back defeats for the first time in four years.

Both the Champions League tie and the Bundesliga title race are still salvageable, but Bayern have lost the knack of scoring important goals. In fact, they are just not scoring enough goals full stop with Harry Kane and co having not registered more than once in six of their last nine away games in all competitions.

Bochum have been hard to beat at home

And they may need multiple goals to see off a Bochum side with growing belief this weekend. Thomas Letsch’s side have lost only one of their 10 home league games this term with three wins in their last five at Vonovia Ruhrstadion.

They do not have to cast their minds too far back to recall a win over Bayern either. Bochum avenged a 7-0 defeat in Bavaria when they beat Bayern 4-2 in April 2022 and come into this game looking for a similar effort after collapsing under a Kane-inspired seven-goal hammering at the Allianz Arena in September.

It’s funny how things work in football and the scene appears set for something out of the ordinary this Sunday, hence the advice here is to take the big odds about the hosts avoiding defeat once more.
