Italy to Win

Reason for tip

Italy look to have emerged from a disappointing Euros in finer fettle than Belgium, who are continuing their transition as the golden generation begins to break up, so a home win looks likely

Italy 2-0

Reason for tip

Belgium have failed to score in four of their last six matches and could struggle to create opportunities in Kevin De Bruyne’s absence

Italy vs Belgium Predictions

  • Five of Belgium’s last six internationals have featured fewer than three goals
  • Italy have won seven of their last nine home matches
  • Belgium have conceded more than once in just two of their last 13 games

Spalletti’s boys are on the up

Both Italy and Belgium put up underwhelming showings at last summer’s Euros, but it is the Azzurri who look to have emerged better from their German disappointment and they can claim a third successive Nations League victory in Rome on Thursday.

Lucianno Spalletti’s team have already beaten Israel and France in Group A2 and they look to be facing Belgium at a good time with star midfielder sitting out as he looks to manage his game time and striker Romelu Lukaku is also missing for the visitors.

Italy, who were knocked out of the Euros at the last-16 stage when they fell to a 2-0 defeat to Switzerland, have lost just two of their last nine home matches and have lost just one of their last six meetings with Belgium.

Belgium could struggle to create much

It is tough to see how Belgium can create many opportunities at the Stadio Olimpico, especially without De Bruyne, and we could be in for a period when they were not the force they were expected to be in the last decade.

They have failed to score in four of their last six matches and while five of their last six games have featured fewer than three goals and they have conceded more than once in just two of their last 13 games, a 2-0 win for the Azzurri could be a worthwhile correct-score punt.
