Bolton vs Gillingham Predictions

  • Bolton have lost their last three League One matches.
  • Bolton have failed to win four of their six League One matches at home this season.
  • Gillingham have avoided defeat in four of their last six League One away games (3 draws, 1 win).

Gritty Gillingham can add to Wanderers’ woes

Bolton should be able to arrest a three-game losing run at home to relegation-threatened Gillingham on Saturday, but they may not have enough confidence to win the game.

Morale at the University of Bolton Stadium has taken a battering since the start of the month as Wanderers have slipped from the fringes of the playoff places to a mid-table position.

Ian Evatt’s side have come up against two of the division’s best in Wigan and Plymouth over the past week, but the manner of each defeat will be hard to take for the manager as on both occasions they were outplayed. Bolton dominated the 1-0 loss at Sheffield Wednesday a fortnight ago, but failed to take their chances and that has also become a worrying trend.

Double chance market appeals

Gillingham are nowhere near as dangerous as the Trotters’ last three opponents, which gives them a chance of earning a win on Saturday, but they can also be pretty stubborn on the road. Steve Evans’ side had lost three straight games  -to teams all currently in the top four – prior to their midweek win over rock-bottom Doncaster – but are rarely any more than a goal behind.

Last month’s away draws at Oxford and Burton, two clubs above Bolton in the standings right now, suggest Evans’ relatively basic approach can trouble better opponents, so we are mindful of this one going the same way.

We’re taking the Gills in the double chance market, though, because Bolton have only won three of their last ten League One games and nine of the eleven goals they have scored in that period came in two away games.

A 1-1 correct score prediction suits this game best because the last four away draws Gillingham have obtained have all come with that result.
