Bolton vs Salford City Predictions

  • Bolton have won only two of their opening ten League Two matches
  • Salford have recorded all their four League Two wins to nil
  • Bolton have failed to score in five of their 11 league outings

Salford can get one over their Greater Manchester rivals

Bolton and Salford were ante-post title favourites in League Two but neither have lived up to that expectation so far and it is not easy to place maximum faith in either of the Greater Manchester rivals.

But Salford have been the slightly more convincing of the two and with many of Bolton’s first-teamers lacking match fitness or struggling with injury, it is the visitors who are given the nod.

Ian Evatt has raised concerns about Antoni Sarcevic and Nathan Delfueoneso, stating they are struggling with back and hamstring problems respectively, while Eoin Doyle, Lloyd Isgrove and Shaun Miller have been sidelined and are not yet fully up to match speed.

Bolton are far weaker in the final third than should be the case, which is why they have managed to win only two of their opening 11 games.

The Trotters have scored just nine goals across those 11 outings, with them hitting the net just three times in six appearances at the University of Bolton Stadium.

Salford, who have collected six points more than Bolton from one outing less, have one of the division’s strongest squads on paper with their attack featuring the likes of Ian Henderson, James Wilson, George Boyd and Richie Towell.

The Ammies have recruited heavily and are only two points outside the playoff places, having lost only two of their opening ten outings.

Goals have been less hard to come by for Salford, who have scored 16 times in ten outings, and defensively there are few more reliable with only eight goals conceded.

With that in mind, Salford make most appeal and we predict them to prevail with a clean sheet.

Bolton have failed to score in five of their 11 league outings and with doubts about the well-being of many of their attackers, we predict Salford to win 2-0 – all four of their league wins this season have been recorded to nil.
