Goals Expected as Bordeaux host Marseille

Bordeaux were dumped out of the Coupe de France by second-tier side Toulouse on Wednesday night, while that same evening Marseille progressed through to the next round by beating Auxerre away. In the league, just 1pt and one position separates Bordeaux in 1oth and Marseille in 9th and we’re expecting a close and competitive game between the pair this weekend.

Marseille have only lost one of their last six competitive games against Bordeaux, so should fancy their chances of getting something out of Sunday’s clash. When these two sides meet the goals usually flow. Three of the last four meetings between Bordeaux and Marseille have seen at leat three goals scored and we’re expecting an action-packed 90-minutes this weekend as well.

Five of Bordeaux’s last six fixtures have produced over 2.5 goals and the same can be said for three of Marseilles’ last six fixtures. Both teams have only managed to keep one clean sheet apiece in their last six attempts, all of which points towards there being goals in this weekend’s clash.

We’re predicting that over 2.5 goals will be scored on Sunday and given the form both teams have been in of late, we’re backing a final scoreline of 2-2. Clean sheets have been at a premium for both clubs of late and neither can claim to be in the best of form right now. With both sides so evenly matched in Ligue 1 this season, a draw seems like the most obvious result.
