Borussia Monchengladbach vs Hamburg Predictions
Borussia Monchengladbach haven’t yet managed to find the form that saw them end last season in an impressive 3rd position, and find themselves desperately searching for a positive result.
They have lost all three of this season’s Bundesliga games, but the international break has given them time off to work on their tactics and build their match fitness up.
They played a friendly match last Friday, beating Sion 2-1 to give them a positive result to work with after their defeats against Borussia Dortmund, Mainz, and Werder Bremen.
Their return of zero points obviously leaves them far towards the wrong end of the table, and they are propping up the other 17 teams in the league. Only them and Stuttgart are yet to find a result, but Stuttgart lead them having scored more goals than Monchengladbach’s two.
One of Stuttgart’s slayers was Hamburg, who beat them 3-2 at home in the 2nd gameweek of the Bundesliga.
These three points are the only ones that Hamburg have managed to pick up so far, with an opener against Bayern Munich ending in a 5-0 thrashing and a 2-1 defeat away to Cologne seeing their points tally remain on three points.
This puts them in 13th position, but they will be eager to pick up as many points as they can in the early stages of the season in order to avoid a second consecutive relegation battle.
They barely escaped last season, ending in the relegation playoff against Karlsruher which they won 3-2 on aggregate after the 2. Bundesliga side took them to extra time.
This is one of those matches that could go either way. Monchengladbach have the stronger squad but their lack of form is causing a crisis in confidence, whilst Hamburg will be going all out to try and take advantage of their opponents poor form.
However, one market that looks good is the Over 2.5 Goals. Monchengladbach have seen three or more scored in their last five fixtures. Hamburg have been open in both attack and defence this season, seeing more than 2.5 goals scored in their last seven games, with five goals being scored in four of those. I think that odds of 3/4 are attractive for Over 2.5 goals, and that’s where my money is going.
