Botafogo vs Sol De America Predictions
Wednesday’s Copa Sudamericana second round, second leg clash sees Brazilians Botafogo doing battle with Paraguayans Sol de America. The hosts arrive in pole position to advance into the next round, having won last week’s first leg 1-0.
Having done extremely well to hammer Superliga Argentina runners Defensa y Justicia 4-0 on aggregate in the first round of action, Botafogo were expected to have few issues in seeing off Sol de America in this tie. The side put in a composed performance to edge 1-0 ahead in Paraguay last week and will now fancy their chances as regards finishing the job off.
As one of the bigger sides in the Sudamericana this year, Botafogo are hopeful of a deep run in the competition, so will be looking to avoid any slip-ups here. Having won 3 of their last 5 matches, they are arrive in decent form and will be confident in their ability to see through their lead as a result.
Meanwhile, if Sol de America were to have any realistic chance of winning this tie, they needed to win their home leg and having failed to do so, they now face an extremely difficult task. The Paraguayans were not fancied to go far in the Sudamericana this year and only squeezed passed Venezuelan minnows Mineros de Guayana on penalties in the first round, so it’s fair to say Wednesday’s game looks like being the end of their continental journey.
Having finished 9th in the opening phase of the Paraguayan top flight, which only contains 12 teams, it’s clear for all to see that Sol are not a powerful outfit and that’s why it’s hard to have any kind of faith in them staging a comeback. They’ve now lost their last 3 games and don’t arrive on Brazilian soil with confidence running high.
Ultimately, we mentioned in our preview of the first leg that Botafogo were the comfortable favourites to advance and that’s certainly the case now that they are ahead. Man for man, they are by far a better side than Sol on paper and will be hoping to prove so on the pitch once again on Wednesday evening.
All things considered, backing a Botafogo win looks the best way to play as far as the betting is concerned and is something we’re more than happy to do with maximum confidence. They’ve won their last 3 Sudamericana matches, are typically strong as hosts and with Sol having lost their last 4 Sudamericana away games, a 1-0 margin of home victory could well be on the cards.
