Braga vs Portimonense Predictions

  • Braga have led at HT and FT in five of their last six home league games.
  • Portimonense have trailed at HT and FT in five of their last eight in the league.
  • Portimonense have lost five of their last ten away games 1-0, including at Benfica and Porto.

Title tilt can be maintained at The Quarry

Braga can keep the pressure on the two clubs above them in the table when they host struggling Portimonense at The Quarry on Saturday.

Artur Jorge’s side are within six points of leaders Benfica and three of second-placed Porto going into the final five rounds of the campaign. They qualified for the Portuguese cup final in midweek with a 2-2 second-leg draw against Nacional in the semis.

Leading 5-0 from the first leg, Jorge rested almost all of his regulars to keep them fresh for the league games ahead, so a strong performance is expected.

Braga get out of the blocks quickly at home

Portimonense have had a recent upturn in their results, winning back-to-back games against Estoril and Gil Vicente to all but confirm their top flight status for next season. They can be dogged and do not concede many goals, but lack the sort of quality to really trouble a side as solid all the way through as Braga.

The Arsenalistas have been getting off to some flying starts in home games and can be backed to lead at half-time here – as they have done in five of their last six home fixtures, going on to win them all.

Portimonense have not scored a first-half league goal away from home since November and are unlikely to prevent Braga from establishing thei usual early platform for success. But a 1-0 scoreline might be all it takes here as that has tended to be the way of things for the majority of Portimonense’s hosts, including both of the other title contenders.
