      Braga vs Vitoria Guimaraes Predictions

A 2-1 away victory against Sion in midweek Europa League will have given an additional boost to a surging Braga. They look like a serious threat in European competition and they enter this weekend’s Portuguese Primeira Liga action closer to third place Porto (nine points behind) than fifth place Vitoria Guimaraes (10 points ahead). They have a chance to extend that lead when the two teams meet in Braga on Saturday night. The home side is unbeaten in six matches, with five wins during that stretch.

Guimaraes are currently in possession of the second Europa League spot, though only five points separate them from 11th place in an always crowded Primeira Liga mid-table. They’re unbeaten in seven matches, a stretch where they may have only won three, but did pull out a significant 1-0 victory over Porto.

      Reason for Betting Tips

Guimaraes are a decent football team by Primeira Liga standards, but the gulf that has long existed between the “big three” and the rest, arguably also holds true for Braga this season. They are highly efficient, possession dominant and well-balanced and we can’t look past a home victory in this contest.

      Head-to-Head

Guimaraes got the better of the two games last season, winning 1-0 at home and drawing the away fixture. However, they fell in Braga earlier this season, losing 1-0.

      Statistics

Braga have the second best defence in the Primeira Liga so far this season with just 15 conceded in 33 games, Guimaraes are 11th with 33 conceded.

      Team News

The news over the past week has only been positive for Braga, who have the option to plug a couple of first team regulars back into the line-up with Crislan and Djavan both practising with the team after extended periods out.

Guimaraes will be without a couple of key attacking players for most of the rest of the season. Creative central player Joao Teixeira won’t be back until late March, while striker Alex could miss the rest of this year’s campaign.
