Brazil U23 vs Egypt U23 Predictions

  • Brazil are unbeaten and have scored seven goals in three games so far.
  • Egypt lost to South American opposition in the group stages with a 1-0 loss to Argentina.
  • There have been over 2.5 goals in two of Brazil’s three games.

Free-scoring Brazil too strong for Egypt

Brazil take on Egypt in the quarter-finals of the Olympics on Saturday and the defending champions appear well placed to secure a spot in the last four.

The Selecao kicked off the tournament with a 4-2 win over Germany and then showed their defensive qualities as they held Ivory Coast to a 0-0 draw despite playing the majority of the game with 10-men.  Brazil then dispatched of Saudi Arabia 3-1 to reach the knockout stages as group winners.

Egypt’s success has been built on a solid defence as they managed to keep Spain at bay in a goalless stalemate in their opener.  The young Pharaohs then fell to a narrow 1-0 defeat to Argentina but secured a place in the last eight with a 2-0 win over Australia.

The African side will adopt a defensive approach against Brazil but are unlikely to be able to hold out for the full 90 minutes.  Brazil have looked lethal in attack at times, particularly against Germany, and we feel they can win this quarter-final match-up fairly comfortably.

Egypt didn’t offer much going forward against Spain and Argentina but showed a bit more intent in attack against Australia and with this being a knockout tie we’re expecting them to be more adventurous than they were in the opening rounds.  Brazil do have a tendency to switch off at the back, as was shown against both the Germans and Saudis.  A Brazil win with both teams to score is one option but we’re going to play it a little safer here and back them on to win with over 2.5 match goals in total, while a 3-1 success for Andre Jardim’s men has a chance in the correct score market.
