Both Teams To Score

Reason for tip

Both teams have scored in the last four meetings between these two London clubs and that pattern could continue here. Brentford hit 29 goals in 19 home games last season, while Palace scored 20 in their final eight overall so both attacks look capable of doing some damage.

Crystal Palace 2-1

Reason for tip

Palace ended last season with six wins and a draw in their final seven games. They may not be able to pick up quite where they left off, particularly with key man Michael Olise departing, but they can still edge this game against a Brentford side  who won just one of their final eight home games and have struggled through pre-season. Take the visitors to win 2-1.

Jean Philippe Mateta To Score Anytime

Reason for tip

Jean-Philippe Mateta hit nine goals in the final six games last season and continued his red-hot form for Silver medallists France at the Olympics with five goals. Mateta should start here despite limited involvement in pre-season and he can open his account for the season at Brentford.

Brentford vs Crystal Palace Predictions

  • Brentford scored in 11 of their final 13 home games last season.
  • Both teams have scored in the last four meetings between these sides.
  • Palace scored in their final eight games – hitting 20 goals during that run.

Attacks on top at Brentford

Brentford take on Crystal Palace in the opening weekend of the Premier League and both sides should head into the campaign in optimistic mood.

This is Oliver Glasner’s first full season in charge at Selhurst Park and after last year’s impressive finish an improvement should be expected, despite the departure of Michael Olise.

Both sides have recruited well and both carry a threat going forward, so backing both teams to score looks a good starting point.

There have been goals at both ends in each of the last four meetings between these two sides and that pattern should continue.

The Bees were fairly potent on home soil, netting in 11 of their final 13 home games and managing 29 goals in 19 games at this venue over the course of the season.

Palace ended the season in emphatic fashion with six wins in a seven-game unbeaten run. They scored in their final eight games, managing 20 goals in total.

Visitors could take the points

Olise’s switch to Bayern is a clear and obvious blow for Palace but they still have real quality in their side.

Jean-Philippe Mateta hit nine goals in the final six games last season and continued his red-hot form for France at the Olympics with five goals as they took Silver, while new arrivals Daichi Kamada and Ismaïla Sarr look good buys.

Palace may not be able to quite pick up where they left off but they may be able to edge this season opener and a 2-1 win for the away side is the correct score pick, while Mateta is the standout pick for an anytime goal.

The Frenchman hasn’t had a pre-season with the Eagles due to his Les Bleus commitments but still looks likely to start, and Palace’s player of the year for 2023/24 can open his account at the first opportunity.
